Gandhian Philosophy

As AVI started as a support group for ASSEFA, an organisation working within a Gandhian philosophy, any other project partner or organisation supported by AVI should have at least a sympathetic understanding of a Gandhian perspective on development.

Main Criteria

AVI’s Partner Approval Guidelines then add the following criteria:

Any partner supported by AVI should demonstrate that it seeks to meet the needs of marginalised and disadvantaged people in mainly rural areas, or that it assists those working with marginalised and disadvantaged rural people.

AVI will look particularly favourably upon:

partners who enable the intended beneficiaries to participate fully in all stages of the project cycle

smaller NGOs and projects which need initial support to establish themselves

partners and projects which are prepared to tackle gender discrimination Relationship with partners

It is also an important principle for AVI, that we know our partners well before we agree to support them financially.
