ORGANIC FARMING IN KERALA

The project aims to help people increase production from their household plots by utilising the land to the maximum extent possible in a sustainable way. Families can produce their own good quality, organic food and sell the surplus. KGSN's method will increase income from the land by up-to five times.

The initial meetings have been well attended and the response enthusiastic. Women tend to be more interested in organic farming. Some of them have cattle and poultry and therefore it is easier for them to use manure.

KGSN's Ayyappan Nair said, 'Our State Festival 'Onam' is in the second week of September. We are organizing the farming programmes in such a way that a large quantity of vegetables is produced to meet the heavy demand during the season'.

Project update- September 2006.
