Introduction It is almost a year since the devastating Tsunami hit the shores of Southern India taking thousands of lives and livelihoods with it. Following the disaster, Action Village India received accounts of the scale of the suffering from our partner organisations in India. In response, AVI supporters gave generously to the Boxing Day appeal raising £40,000 over the year. In October this year twenty AVI members visited the worst affected coastal villages. They saw for themselves the devastation, and the progress being made to rebuild lives and establish sustainable economies within shattered communities. The visit was also an opportunity to follow up the first Partners Forum in India in March 2004. AVI considered how it might develop over the next few years, and discussed the benefits of possible links between the partners. What follows is a snap-shot of the post-tsunami situation. There are personal stories and first-hand accounts of the successes and difficulties of reconstruction work as seen by our members. A special thanks goes to ASSEFA, CRUSADE and Ekta Parishad for hosting AVI and looking after the group so wonderfully during their stay.
