CRUSADE Celebrates World Disability Day

CRUSADE, in association with Vallamai (which means strength), the registered federation of the special groups of people living with a disability, celebrated the World Disability Day on 3rd December at CRUSADE’s Centre at Pudupakkam on the occasion of the federation’s third AGM.

CRUSADE, in association with Vallamai (which means strength), the registered federation of the special groups of people living with a disability, celebrated the World Disability Day on 3rd December at CRUSADE’s Centre at Pudupakkam on the occasion of the federation’s third AGM.

The day long events included presenting the annual report of the federation, a briefing about the analysis of the survey which was held among the members of the special groups who are engaged in economic activities, creating awareness on government schemes, the benefits of physiotherapy for people living with a disability and the plans of the federation for 2022.

Highlights of the programme included the selection of the best groups based on their performance and recognising them by giving gifts and appreciation. In four blocks, 20 groups were selected and based on common criteria, the groups were graded as first, second and third and the groups were given a certificate of appreciation and utility gifts (stainless steel lunch box, plates and tumbler) to all 200 members in these 20 groups.

Some of the members were also given assistive devices such as knee caps after having trained by physiotherapist to practice exercises and in the use of the devices.
The family of six people living with a disability who passed away during the last year were given a small grant by CRUSADE through Vallamai of Rs.5,000 each (approx. £50).

On this occasion, CRUSADE’s general body members had interacted with staff and volunteers in a separate session and appreciated their work, especially their commitment in undertaking relief and awareness creation work during Covid-19 infection.

The event was attended by 51 people living with a disability and 21 staff members and volunteers.
