Saturday 13th July 2019 at Virginia Water

This year, the Walk at Virginia Water is going to be held on Saturday 13th July 2019. It’s a stunningly beautiful location to spend a warm summer day walking & talking and enjoying a picnic. The picnic and refreshments will be provided free. All you have to do is, turn up at the lake on the day with your friends and family!

The Cause:
The walk is dedicated to disadvantaged women in rural India, raising funds since 2005. Every year the funds raised are donated to Action Village India (AVI), a UK-based charity organisation (Reg. No. 1118845). AVI closely works with their partners in India, aiming to change the lives of thousands of people, especially women and their families, living below the poverty line in rural areas.

Some of the on-going projects include:

* Enabling women to setup their market stalls in the nearby town.
* Ensuring that village girls in Bihar can continue their secondary education.
* Reducing the number of low birth weight babies born in Tamil Nadu providing medical care and encouraging nutritious diet.

You can donate via Pallavi's JustGiving page.

In 2018, Walk for Women raised £1870. In spite of the heat and and the England team’s refusal to alter the time of their football match till a bit later in the day, which of course we had requested, lots of people arrived and walked round the lake. They also gave very generously and so quite a bit has already been collected and much more will come in online. So that will definitely be of use to girls and women in India.

The lake looked pretty magical in the summer weather and there was even a bit of a breeze coming from the water. So a pretty good day thanks to all Pallavi’s hard work and her wonderful family and other helpers.

We hope you can join us this summer!

The Venue:
Virginia Water is a man-made lake surrounded by beautiful woodland and cultivated plantations, which have been maintained since the 18th century - a perfect venue for a walk on a warm summer day.

The Event:
One lap of the lake is approximately 5 miles, but you may make your walk as long as you wish. The walk will start at 10:30am, but please feel free to come along anytime up to 2:00pm. Most people walk around the lake in small groups until 3:30pm. Food and refreshments will be provided free all day and first-aid will be available too. All you need to do is turn up in comfortable clothing and footwear to suit the weather.

We hope to see you all on Saturday 13th July.  If you'd like to take part please email Pallavi.
